Introduction
Romeo and Juliet VR is an educational game I developed when I internship at Orta Interactive Studio as a VR programmer in the summer of 2022. Our client is from the CMU Department of English. He wants to use VR technology to bring traditional Shakespeare play new energy and possibilities. Therefore, we got this Romeo and Juliet VR. In the game, the players can become the star of the stage. They can pick Romeo or Juliet at the beginning. And when the scene begins, the players will be able to read lines as they appear before you - just like karaoke. The players can also interact with Romeo or Juliet and finish the performance with the virtual character together.
In this project, we used the motion capture system to record the animation for Romeo and Juliet. We worked with two performers from CMU’s drama school. And we brought their performance into the virtual world using the mocap system, which makes our characters look really vivid and natural.
My Contributions
- As a programmer, I am responsible for all programming content developing and testing including character animation, UI, Lighting, and a karaoke system.
- As a programmer, I recorded animation using the Motion Capture system and created a pipeline for processing Mocap data with artists.
- As a game designer, I designed the intro library scene and all the interactions with the book.
